How easily we forget. Hopefully the American people during this current election cycle will remember the lavish praise heaped upon John Corzine by President Obama and Vice President Biden. They told us he was one of the brightest and wisest members of their party. This is the same Corzine that presided over one of the largest financial debacles in the history of America in which $1.2 billion dollars of investors’ capital disappeared without a trace. Perhaps it’s also listening to individuals like Obama and Biden that is causing our financial freedoms to disappear without a trace.

While the President spends enormous amounts of money advertising money to try and heap the negative attention on his opponents, we the people would be very wise to remember what this President has done in the past and not what he is now saying with his silver tongue, eloquence in the here and now. There’s a well known saying, “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.” Let’s make sure we’re not shamed again.

Everyone remembers former President Bush’s famous “axis” jab with a conciliatory gesture toward North Korea, calling for North Korea to open its borders and pursue normal relations with its neighbors. To this day the radical communist state remains bordered by barbed wire, land mines, and a standing army of 1 million, an enduring hangover from the cold war. Now that its leader Kim Jong Il has passed away, from exhaustion no less, can the United States finally work with North Korea as “a friend and partner” in the rebuilding of their country?

From Bush to now President Obama there have been several gestures intended to placate North Korea, reminiscent of the hard line President Ronald Reagan directed toward the Soviet Union even as he pursued a peaceful end to the cold war. Similarly, President Obama has taken a strong stance on the accumulation and sale of weapons technology by North Korea, but by offering America’s support in their peaceful development, Obama is also offering a clear and beneficial line of retreat by which the North Korean government can save face and -dare we dream- move away from the dark tribalism that presently keeps the country stagnated and impoverished.

This seems extraordinarily diplomatic given that North Korea has recently been supplying terrorist states with weapons technology that is used to target our way of life. Should President Obama extend more peaceful overtures as an Olive branch to the new regime that will soon take over the helm of that isolated dark sovereign nation? Could we witness a reconstruction in Korea that would be on par with the end of the cold war? Should they abstain, America must be prepared to fight evil – and alone if need be.

The ill conceived idea to stimulate the economy thru a tax credit for firms that
increase employment, shows an academic economist fundamental lack of
understanding of why companies increase employment. Jobs are a by-product
of increased sales and revenues. Companies do not like to hire employees.
They are expensive, require management and cannot be easily laid off in the
event of incompetence or loss of business. Companies increase employment
because they have additional business that needs to be processed, and they
cannot process it thru overtime or increased capital. No businessman in his
right mind would hire someone merely because labor is 10% cheaper because of
tax credits. He would only increase employment if that is his only
alternative to process additional business. If he has additional business,
then he will hire additional employees regardless of the 10% credit.
Therefore the credit is an inefficient way to increase employment and waste
of taxpayer money.

Where was the Commodities and Futures Trading Commission when investors needed them? The CFTC had recently done an audit on MF Global and found them in compliance. The CFTC also lets investment firms with a fiduciary obligation to their customer use their customer’s money in complex over night transactions called repos. Clearly, regulation does not work. Especially when the CFTC’s Chairman is a former Goldman Sachs partner like his friend Corzine. When crony capitalism exists, excessive regulation merely gives investors and customers a false sense of security. They would be better off looking for investment firms that are unregulated but have an unimpeachable reputation.

The guiding principles of the nation have been eroded by the quick-fix microwave generation. We have been amazed by the dreams of many, which leave us unconcerned with reality. Many individuals who point out the dangerous of wishful planning, with no experience of proper execution, are deemed cynics. Current economic times demand a realistic view of the world. No one can afford to waste time on pipe dreams in exchange for pragmatic solutions. The ideas currently circulating around our country are about as worthless as fed controlled currency that is in rotation. It’s time for the supposed 99% to start creating real-life solutions and stop comparing themselves to rare anomalies within our society. Our society thrived in previous years due to the work ethic of the middle class. If we change the ethics of this country from the foundational building to the get rich quick, we will lose everything, and it will be nobody’s fault but our own. Spiritual philosopher Vernon Howard once said “All forms of self-defeating behavior are unseen and unconscious, which is why their existence is denied.” Throughout all history every great empire has been destroyed from the inside out. It is the virtues of these empires that have destroyed them. The character of a nation is defined by its willingness to struggle for advancement. To go where we must, we must begin where we are. The principles sound basic, but that is exactly what this nation is missing. This nation must repay its debt by work, and not by more debt. By becoming more simple we will halt the self-inflicted destruction of our country. Simple moral principles in repetition is the equation of good character.

Marriage should be for a life time and couples should work through betrayal and challenges that many marriages are confronted with. Herman Cain and his wife Gloria have been married for over 40 years. When you’ve invested that much time in a marriage there’s a part of you that doesn’t want to destroy your marriage because of some allegations, no matter how intense, and you also do not want to once again be alone. Obviously a marriage for many couples is notjudged on a season of allegations and challenges, especially when you’ve been in the relationship for 46 years. Why would Cain knowingly urge his wife to give interviews defending his character when he knew she would later be humiliated for doing so? He knew without a doubt that she was enabling a lie which to many is worse than betrayal. Either Gloria Cain is very naive or Herman Cain is very deceptive. Cain cannot repent unless he admits and acknowledges his wrong doing and serious character flaws. All we have seen from Cain is deceit and hypocrisy and no admission of guilt. He should just apologize to the people who have given him their faith and trust. Cain needs to man up, acknowledge his short comings, and not profit from this chaotic behavior.

We are watching the last hope of human kind be destroyed by a group of people that have bought into a false reality. We have forgotten what makes human beings strive and what we owe to God, we are destroying it all. It’s no longer a theoretical possibility, it’s a strong possibility. Just look at the acting and posturing from the failed Super Committee when they knew all along the meetings and constant rhetoric would be an utter failure. I am truly beginning to worry about my beloved America. Truly.

The Pakistanis continue to spit in our eyes despite all of our overtures and attempts to gain their friendship. They know we are over a barrel and we don’t have the controls. Why have we given them so much autonomy? We have convinced ourselves that we need them so that we can pursue our goals in Afghanistan, but in order to find a solution to the Pakistani problem we must first reexamine our goals in Afghanistan. What are the realistic chances that we are going to convert them to a democratic society like ours? I suspect the chances are negative, it just won’t happen.

By continuing to pursue democracy in Afghanistan we are simply wasting our time and resources just as Russia and every other society that has gone into Afghanistan over the century. This is perhaps a situation where we need to take the advice of the flight attendant, at the beginning of the flight who points out if there is a crisis place your own mask on first and then help the person next to you. We are quickly running out of options and are in of need major self examination and care before we can do anything to help the rest of the world.

How can we demand that other countries elect, or otherwise appoint, capable and astute leaders when the one that we have doesn’t have the confidence of his own constituents? It is analogous to trying to sell landscaping services within your neighborhood while your own yard is a mess. It simply does not work.

One of the pertinent questions left out in the Cain-Ginger White affair is whether Gloria Cain knows Ms. White. If in fact her husband had a legitimate friendship with another woman for 13 years, certainly the wife would know about this. We’re not speaking of rocket science but of logical investigative techniques. Also, when candidate Cain was asked whether White waslying about a 13 year sexual relationship, he simply stated let’s see what the allegations are. If in fact there was no sexual relationship he would have stated emphatically that this was a straight up lie. Either there was a sexual relationship or he’s the most inept person running for president in the history of the United States. In either case all this does is call into question his qualifications for becoming President of our nation. The simple reason is, if Cain is having affairs he’s opening himself to blackmail and compromise which can affect his decision making. If Cain hasn’t had affairs and is not capable of conveying that fact with clear definitive answers then he is not in possession of the qualities of character that will be beneficial to our nation, which brings me back to the issue I have with Washington now. Leadership.

At a time that very well may go down in history as one of the turning points for Western civilization, what we need more than anything are competent leaders. Hermain Cain, who showed so much promise early on, has appeared wholly unable to lead himself out of the darkness that has befallen his presidential campaign. How on earth is he going to lead the US back to the heights of prosperity?

What’s going on in Europe is scaring the living daylights out of me. The Germans cannot sell German government bonds to the bond market. They only sold about 40% of their sovereign bonds last week. This is the strongest country in Europe and they can’t sell their Euro bonds? That is proof positive that investors have zero confidence in the Euro. They have confidence in Germany, but not the Euro. If Germany sells Euro bonds and the Euro market breaks up. German Euro bonds will convert to Deutsche Mark bonds and no one knows how they will be priced. Italy is a story unto itself, it has gone so far down the wrong path that, in an auction on Friday, it had to pay investors 6.5% on six-month bonds.

This is all so painful to watch, mostly because it is a true indictment of the final breakup of the Eurozone, but when it breaks up what are the implications for Europe, world trade, and the good ol’ USA? All we know is that the short term impact of a break up will Not be good.

Thanksgiving traditionally marks the beginning of a season of gluttony that ends with meaningless new years resolutions to lose weight. There is nothing wrong with enjoying food and fellowship, but we should not allow the season to destroy our judgement. The same things that cause excessive weight gain during the rest of year, are the same things causing weight gain during this part of the year. The same safe guards are also effective. We need to understand that it is impossible to gain weight if caloric output is equal to or less than caloric input. Some people say they are different and that they have a gland problem.

They are right, they have a salivary gland problem.

There are some very well known tricks that will allow one to still enjoy fellowship and eating without gaining a lot of weight. Such as putting out a plate of celery sticks and carrot sticks instead of a plate of chocolate candy. Those kinds of snacks can be enjoyed very easily without covering them with salad dressing. Apple and pear slices, dried apricots, pears, raisins are all delicious and low calorie. Also, if thirst strikes drink a glass of water first before you grab the egg nog or the punch. It will decrease your thirst substantially and you will drink far less calories. By following these simple tricks and examples you will have a much healthier and happier holiday season without the guilt, and you can save your New Years resolution for much more important matters.
